The district is shaped around many other tourist sites, each of which has its place near the Eiffel Tower.

The history of the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was born from the imagination of Gustave Eiffel , on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Intended to be dismantled after a few years, its aura was such that it was quickly decided to keep it in the Parisian landscape. However, this immense metal structure of more than 300 meters high did not receive only praise, and many Parisians viewed it with a dim eye, considering it a wart in the midst of the beauty of Paris. After several years of attracting more and more tourists, the Iron Lady has established itself in the daily lives of Parisians, and is gradually becoming the emblem of the capital throughout the world.

Today, the Eiffel Tower attracts millions of visitors each year , and it alone embodies Parisian elegance . Many events are also organized around it.

Here are some anecdotes about the Eiffel Tower which testify to its emblematic character:

  • The tower's first visitors were Buffalo Bill and the English royal family;
  • The Eiffel Tower is the tallest building in France (324 meters);
  • The Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid tower in the world, with more than 7 million visitors per year;
  • The starred restaurant Jules Verne, on the first floor of the tower, sees 2 marriage proposals per day, on average;
  • There are around thirty monuments around the world that were inspired by the Eiffel Tower;
  • A young American woman, madly in love with the Eiffel Tower, decided to marry him in 2007;
